 LAA Arts Education Grants

2024 - 2025

An LAA Penny Day Thompson Arts in Education grant for 2024/25 was awarded to Loop It Up Savannah, a youth arts and education nonprofit.

The $3000 grant will be applied to the Book Box Library Project for kindergarten and 1st grade classes. Each student receives a wooden box for their very own books that they will then decorate.

This is also a wonderful volunteer opportunity for our members. What fun it would be for a child to have an LAA artist helping them with their design.

The project will begin in October. If you can help, please contact LAA Arts in Education co-chair, Phyllis Tildes: artphyll@comcast.net or Loop It Up Director, Molly Green Lieberman: molly@loopitupsavannah.com

The LAA has also awarded $500 to Telfair for programs at their new Children’s Museum. To learn more about the Children's Museum, click here.

2023 -2024

The Landings Art Association is pleased to announce their Annual 2023-2024 Penny Day Thompson Grant to Hesse School elementary art teacher Michelle Chung-Samuels. In its fifth year, these grants support programs that otherwise would not be possible.

Ms. Chung-Samuels reports that the 7th and 8th grade students are making progress with their weaving pieces, and the quality of their work is improving as they gain a deeper understanding of the intricate techniques that require patience, precision and dedication.

The teamwork and collaboration will ultimately produce a large-scale fiber art installation, creating a sense of pride and connection among students, teachers, parents and the wider community. The photos show some individual weavings in progress.

Through their Community Outreach, the LAA strives to benefit a variety of charitable programs both monetarily and educationally. Over the years recipients include Bethesda Academy, the Parkinson’s Foundation, Skidaway Audubon, Landings Military Relief Fund, The Village Library, Golfing for a Cure, SCAD, and Landings Landlovers.
